Order Replacements &
Exchanges
One major challenge a client of mine faced in 2013 was processing replacement orders and exchanges for their customers on NetSuite, as out-of-the-box functionality was unavailable (and as of 2017, no such functionality still does not exist!). On the contrary, their front-end eCommerce platform was used to accommodate order replacement requests but with implications on their chart of accounts in NetSuite and inaccuracies to their item stock count.
Solution:
Build a separate custom Suitelet for both replacement orders & order exchanges: All item lines are picked up from an existing sales order (for replacements) or item receipts (for exchanges) and processes a new zero-value order.
Benefits:
- Cost of Stock account is impacted correctly
- General Lodger is not impacted as the order is 0.00
- Stock inventory is deducted correctly for the replacement item(s) during the fulfilment phase.
- All replacement orders are traceable via the customer record
By implementing an order replacement feature on NetSuite, business users were able to raise product replacements seamlessly and without the use of any other system.
